The Mazda CX 9 is a large sized SUV, which is also considered as a “modern station wagon” manufactured by Mazda. It substituted the Mazda MPV small van for North America.

First Generation (2007-Present)

It was introduced in 2006 at the New York International Auto Show and started trading from 2007.

The Mazda CX 9 was developed on design platform of the Ford CD3. It was just like the CX-7, and shared several components, along with the basic design. It was designed as a front wheel drive vehicle along with an elective All-wheel drive system.

The Mazda CX 9 was developed at Ujina 1 plant of Mazda in Hiroshima Prefecture. The Mazda CX 9 was also traded in Indonesian and Australian markets too.

The 2007 CX-9 was the initial version that was included with an injector seat along with the 3.5L Cyclone V6 engine. On that model, the traditional equipments were:

• traction control,
• Dynamic Stability Control,
• front side impact airbags,
• Roll Stability Control, and
• 3-row side curtain airbags.

It also offered luxury choices such as

• Bluetooth hands-free phone link,
DVD navigation system,
• rear entertainment system,
• backup camera, and
• Bose 5.1 surround-sound system

The engine displacement was increased to 3.7 litres for the 2008 model. Mazda announced that the new engine could produce

• 270 ft-lb of torque, and
• 273 hp of throughput

The engine of 2008 CX-9 used an Aisin F21++ 6-speed automatic transmission along with a console-fixed shifter. It also incorporated a rearview mirror mounted backup camera system and a Blind Spot Monitoring System. It was also added with the blind spot warning or Collision avoidance detector.

Most of the customers complain about congested space in its interior; nevertheless the 2008 model was selected as SUV of the Year by MotorTrend, beating the strong competitors like the Nissan Rogue and Buick Enclave

For 2009, the sheet metal was unchanged in comparison to other versions. For this model year, it was included with a V6 engine, which did not need premium fuel. The added engine could churn out a decent 273 horsepower, and the engine was matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2010 Mazda CX-9 comes with a new grille and it was introduced in 2009 at the New York Auto Show. It is available in three variants – the Mazda CX9 Grand Touring, Luxury, and Classic.

The new 2010 Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a Bluetooth hands-free interface and tri-zone climate control as the traditional features along with all earlier model’s standard features.

Among the three variants, the most expensive variant is the Grand Touring, followed by the Touring variant that incorporates many premium options. The optional goodies are rear DVD and high end audio entertainment systems.
